Barraquito - Southampton's best bagels

Bagels. One of the best breakfast foods (in my opinion). A hot topic across the nation (just see how furious the comments are calling for the McDonald's breakfast bagels to return!)
I've been quite priviledged in my life to have tried bagels in both New York and Montreal, Barraquito claim to be Montreal bagels and I personally think these are the closest you'll be able to get (in Southampton at least!)
I tried two bagels from the winter menu, firstly an Italian Sub bagel. A tomato and lemon cream cheese, with salami and olives. The bagels are served with the schmear (the fancy way of saying 'bagel topping') on the side for you to load up as much or as little as you'd like.
Of course I loaded mine up with the whole pot, possibly a mistake in hindsight as it was oozing out the sides. I do like mine loaded though to be fair.

I also had to try a sweet bagel, so I opted for the Barry's Chocolate Orange, a hazelnut and orange cream cheese. This tasted like nutella, but not too heavy. A really well-balanced flavour which was light and chocolatey. A perfect sweet treat.

To drink, I of course had to try an iced matcha with their spiced apple pie syrup. You know I'm a matcha freak already, practically keeping Maurie's in business the amount of them I buy there!
The syrup tasted just like an apple pie filling, so well presented and overall an incredible matcha.

And I couldn't leave without at least buying some of the baked good on the counter to have at home. I got a salted caramel brownie which was super gooey, although the pretzel was a little stale (although I can't blame that on them considering it had been in the open air in my kitchen for a while!) and an apple snickerdoodle cookie which, like the apple syrup, was well spiced and a really good crumbly cookie.

Overall I think this will be one of my new top brunch spots, perfectly made bagels with a variety of fillings. Definitely worth a visit!
