Roast Review: Overdraft

This roast review I headed over to Overdraft, a spot usually known for its beer and tacos, to see how their Sunday roast stacks up. I paid for this meal myself, so you can expect my honest and independent take on it, just like always.
Overdraft usually does a killer job with their tacos and craft beers (and I can vouch for those tacos being top-notch). So when I heard they were stepping into the roast dinner arena, I was definitely curious. Here’s what the plate consisted of:
They served up a birria roast beef, which was a fun twist on the traditional roast. The beef was a tad overdone for my taste, but it still had good flavour, especially with the birria rub. The gravy was absolutely delicious and really brought everything together. The roasties were spot-on, crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, just how you want them.

We had some red cabbage that almost had a caramelised onion vibe, which was really nice and added a sweet, rich note. The stuffing, though, was a bit of a miss for me... they did these deep-fried stuffing balls that just didn’t quite hit the mark. You could really taste that they were fried, and while the inside was decent, the crust was just a bit too much.

On the veg side, the grilled green beans were straightforward and tasty, and the maple-glazed carrots were absolutely fantastic. So good I wished they’d given me more. There was also some roast squash that felt a bit pointless and bland; honestly, I would have traded it for another carrot any day.
The star of the show, though, was the nacho cheese cauliflower. It was a brilliant, unexpected twist on the usual cauliflower cheese, and it was hands-down a 10 out of 10. No notes, just perfect.

Unfortunately, the Yorkshire pudding was pretty average. It didn’t feel homemade and came off as a bit of a letdown compared to the rest of the plate.
I’ve had better Yorkshires around the city, so this one just didn’t quite measure up.

In the end, I’d give Overdraft’s Sunday roast a solid 8 out of 10. It’s definitely worth a try, especially for that cauliflower and those maple carrots. Just know you might want to skip the stuffing balls and the Yorkshire pudding if you’re a purist.
Overall a fun and flavourful twist on the classic Sunday roast. If you’re into trying something a bit different, Overdraft’s roast is definitely worth a visit. Let me know if you give it a go!
