Oktoberfest in Southampton

When I first had the idea for this blog, I thought Oktoberfest was the entirety of October. I mean, it’s in the name after all! Turns out Oktoberfest actually starts in September and ends on the 5th of October. Oh well... Consider this advanced notice for next year!
Essentially, I wanted to showcase a few places in Southampton with Oktoberfest specials or are Oktoberfest adjacent. In my search, I came across three standout venues, plus one bonus event (and good news, it’s still coming up on Friday 24th October, so there’s time to grab tickets!).
Firstly, Belgium and Blues. One of, in my opinion, the city’s best bars. They have a frequently changing menu with, unsurprisingly, a good variety of Belgian beers! This should be one of your first ports of call if you’re looking for an obscure drink, a recommendation, or simply a good vibe.

I go here frequently for drinks and quick bites to eat, this time showcasing the Oktoberfest specials they had. These included a soft, chewy pretzel with beer cheese dip and a currywurst pizza. Their pizzas are some of the best in the city, this time a special with diced sausage, curry sauce, onions and mustard. A delicious taste of Oktoberfest!

Next, I ventured up the road to BrewDog. I know, I know, my ethos is and always has been to showcase local food, and BrewDog’s had its fair share of bad press lately, but I can’t deny their effort with Oktoberfest. Alongside a special food menu featuring burgers with sauerkraut and beer cheese sauce, and currywurst-loaded fries, they also imported five German beers specifically for the occasion. (Whatever you think of the brand, that’s solid effort.)

Finally, no list about German food in Southampton would be complete without mentioning Stein Garten. Having been to Germany, I have to say this is as close to Germany as you can get without getting on a flight. Beer, bratwurst, schnitzel, goulash and German specials like Spätzle (a German pasta dish) are served in a venue with long tables and decorated like a traditional bierkeller. Highly recommend a visit if you’re at the bottom end of town.

And for the bonus one... Friday 24th October sees the return of Oktoberfest Southampton in Guildhall Square! With tickets from £5 they promise a full German beer marquee with Bavarian theming, a Live Oompah band, Lederhosen-clad staff and food stalls. Tickets available on their website www.oktoberfestsoton.com
Let me know in the comments or via our social media feeds if we've missed anywhere, we'd love to check them out next Oktoberfest!
Prost!
